APRIL

Tuesday 16 + Wednesday 17 April, 10am-4pm

Collagraph Workshop

Tutor: Fenella Ross-Elmer of Blackwater Print Studio

Cost: £95 for ASI members

Venue: Killearnan Church Hall

An Introductory workshop - two days, of exploring, process, texture, plate making & printing. Developing a good understanding in a hands on workshop by Professional Printmaker/Artist Fenella Ross - BA (Hons), Fine Art Printmaking, running her home studio - Black Water Print Studio - Gorstan, Highlands.

Q. What is Collagraph Printmaking?

A. Collagraphy is a printmaking process in which materials are glued or sealed to a rigid substrate to create a plate. Once inked, the plate becomes an impression for printing the design onto paper.

The workshop is an introduction and is designed to encourage exploration in Collagraph Printmaking, working abstractly to understand texture and the process, then developing these skills into the design and creation of your own Collagraph, exploring design, plate making and printing colour.

Tuesday 23 + Wednesday 24 April, 10am-4pm

Sketching + Developing Sketches

Tutor: Jonathan Shearer

Cost: £65 (2 days)

Venue: Killearnan Church Hall

Using Killearnan Church Hall as a base, spend a couple of days with Jonathan. Day 1 sketching outside around the local area and, Day 2 in the Hall working inside those sketches/studies up into finished studio pieces. This would be a particularly useful workshop for anyone thinking of attending the ASI Cromarty Weekend later in the year who might want to improve their skills to get the maximum out of the forthcoming weekend, but equally suited to someone who has maybe never tried (or been scared to try) en plein air work. Why not take the opportunity to learn in a beautiful, relaxed and encouraging environment?

Day 1: En plein air sketching around the Killearnan area (hall available as a base)

Day 2: Working inside to create finished pieces of work from your sketches

What will you need to bring:

For outside: warm clothes and sensible footwear! Sketch books (more than one) and materials such as charcoal, pastel, watercolour, acrylics, etc… (more than just pencils!).

For inside and working up sketches and studies in the studio environment: a protective cover for your workspace, paints, inks, charcoal, pastel, surface/s (e.g. paper, board, canvas, etc).

Bookings please, for all workshops, to Fiona Morris on email fimorris2@icloud.com.

Also, If members have any particular topics they would like to attend a workshop on, then please get in touch with Fiona with your suggestions.
